Screen Dance International

Screen Dance International partners with ArtLab J to bring screendance shorts and artists from around the globe to Detroit Dance City Festival, August 10, 2018, at the Detroit Institute of Arts. At the intersection of dance, film, music, and the visual arts, SDI aims to stretch the imagination through adjudicated screendance shorts that are sometimes serious, sometimes funny, but always timely and inspiring. Founded by Joanna McNamara, JMc/Productions, SDI is a traveling screendance festival highlighting a wide range of dance genres including urban street dance, post modern dance, contemporary dance, world dance, ballet, dance theatre, jazz, experimental dance, animation and tap dance. Detroit Dance City Festival (DDCF) is a three-day community building event that celebrates dance in its various forms and disciplines. This includes performances, master classes and networking opportunities held at various locations throughout the city of Detroit. Our mission is to educate audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network between Michigan, the United States and the world!

The Detroit Dance City Festival will showcase the work of over 50 local and national and international performing artists and companies.

The 2017 Detroit Dance City Festival drew over 8,000 festival participants and this year we hope to continue to grow with the creation of an international collaborative project, Festival Exchange Program; spearheaded by the Festival’s parent organization ArtLab J. DDCF will also host a great modern/contemporary dance master classes led by the field’s leading practitioners. Aside from the performances and master classes, festival participants are invited to relax, network, and meet the artists and other festival goers at the Dancing in the Park.
