Workshop Name: A Screenplay Paradigm for Writers and Executives
Description:
This 45 minute seminar explores a lexicon which is incredibly useful for screenwriters and executives alike. It's drawn from a fairly new paradigm in screenwriting, a screenwriter/executive toolbox which offers writers a fresh way to create dynamic, gripping stories, and at the same time provides an easily learned common vocabulary for execs, so that notes and ideas become clear, and precise. No more, “Something’s wrong with that sequence, but I’m not quite sure what.” Or, "I just don't know what this note means."
Using this toolbox writers and executives can discover exactly what may be missing or needed in any particular sequence of a screenplay. It's a system which has been back-tested on hundreds of commercially successful films, and shows that almost every one of them uses the building blocks of the system. On the flip side, films which do not adhere to the "blueprint" are, for the most part, almost assuredly doomed to commercial failure.
The seminar will be presented by Rowan Sutherland M.F.A (Screenwriting), multi-award winning producer/director, and past professor of screenwriting and media-writing in the Department of Cinema, Television, and Visual Arts, California State University, Northridge.

Attend all three sessions to get ongoing feedback from other filmmakers in the area, hear pieces of your script read aloud, and get inspired to keep at those computers. No matter where you are in the process of writing it never hurts to sit in a room full of other writers. Bring your ideas, your enthusiasm, and your working screenplays. All skill levels welcome.
